These pens, like most writing utensils, are very easy to hold. If you've ever held a pen, you will be familiar with holding these pens, too. I'm not exactly sure what "sheerness" means, but there is a clear view window for the ink level that's very handy. Or do they mean kind of like muchness? Like, can these pens lose their sheerness the way Alice lost her muchness? IDK
Aaaaaaaand, they're not a super great value for the money. Not terribly expensive, but they could be cheaper, man. They do write pretty awesomely, though. They don't have that weirdly pleasing scratchy feel that the .5s have, but they do have a heavy, smoothness when writing with them that you don't expect from such a light weight pen. I write with a heavy hand, so that may cause a variance in experience.
I do recommend them.
Write on, brother!
The only downside to V7 is the finish: it's a small, cheap, hard, slick tube; there's nothing wrong with that and they work for me fine. People with big hands (men's ring size 11 or larger) might find them hard to handle.
But everything else about these pens is solid, especially the value. I buy them by the box (12) to get the best price. I tried the other disposables, but I think these give the best cost-to-life value.
There are different flavors, so you need to try the three-packs until you find your best fit. V5 is a smaller tip (0.5mm?); V7 is probably 0.7mm. Then they come in different finishes: I find extra fine to be too fine unless you're sketching in a pen-and-ink fashion. So I use fine: I can get lighter lines with touch in the rare cases when I need them. With fine you can sign documents and fill out forms and edit print-outs; I card out baseball games, so lots of details and ticks and lines in little boxes and V7 fine is perfect for that.
The tip rolls with the tiniest resistance . . . . which is what I need. I don't want it to roll flawlessly because I like the tiny drag to help me feel where I am. These roll even easier than the best ball-point.
The slower you write, the wider the ink will feed (same way as a nib works). From that you figure out which type (medium, fine, extra fine) you need to get the line width you want at the speed at which you write.
Years later, and finally I could get my very own Pilot Pens!
I squeal inside everytime I use them because they just glide so smoothly. I primarily handwrite in cursive (I know, they don't even teach that anymore), and nothing irks me more than having a pen that has ink that cuts out or is goupy and sticky. You won't see any of that with these pens.
They also last MUCH longer than other gel or discount roller ball pens.
They fit really well in the hand, not too thick or really thin, either. And the clip is steel - not plastic, so it doesn't break off anoyingly when you clip in on and off.
The best part about this order, was that when I opened my box of 12 blue Pens, I counted 13! They threw in an extra pen for me, which I am absolutely giddy over! Thanks guys!
Conclusion: Buy these pens, only these pens. You won't regret it!

By the way, if you do have a problem with ink drying, a little alcohol on the tip will get the ink flowing nicely again.
Top reviews from other countries
The ink in these is water based rather then gel based, so the properties are a lot closer to those of fountain pens then ballpoints. (I have refilled empty V7 pens with fountain pen ink, and they work almost just as well).
This means that these pens are SMOOTH writing, especially when held at a slight angle. They seem to have a sweet spot position, where the line it lays down is thicker then 0.7mm but writes a lot smoother. Find the angle that works best for you.(This same sweet spot also exists on the V5 pens, but not the retractable v5/v7s from my experience).
One of the downsides is that you need to have good quality paper, otherwise the pen feathers just like fountain pens. It also bleeds through to the back on some paper, so you may only get to use 1 side. On the other hand, if you use non-absorbent paper, they write great, but do smudge, as they take a while to dry. The capped version of the V5 and V7 seem to write better/smoother then the retractable versions as well.
Overall, the smoothness rivals that of fountain pens, and requires a lot less pressure then G2s to write especially if you can find the sweet-spot angle where they glide without pressure (to be clear, you still need to press down, unlike with FP's, but these were good enough to convert me for in-class use for note taking).
If you like the G2 but want something even smoother and requiring less pressure, or you're sick of pressing down on pencils, give these a try!
